Why choose composite decking over timber?
Composite decking keeps its looks without the yearly sanding, staining and oiling that timber needs. Sylvan boards are a wood-polymer composite (WPC): a blend of Grade A recycled HDPE, reclaimed wood fibre and UV-stable additives that resists rot, splintering and fading far better than timber.

Three colours, two board profiles
Every colour comes as a lightweight hollow-core board or a heavier solid-core board. Each board has 3D wood-grain embossing for a natural timber texture and grip, plus a co-extruded protective shield layer for extra resistance to fading, staining and scratches.

Anthracite
A deep charcoal grey for a sharp, modern finish
Silver
A light, cool grey that brightens a garden
Coffee
A warm brown with the look of traditional timberHollow core or solid core composite decking?
Hollow-core boards are the lighter, more cost-effective choice for most gardens. Solid-core boards are denser and stronger, built for commercial schemes, high footfall and longer joist spans.

Composite decking questions
What is composite decking made of?
Sylvan composite decking is 30% Grade A recycled HDPE, 60% wood fibre and 10% additives, including an anti-UV agent, antioxidant, stabiliser and colourant. That blend gives the look of timber without the rot or splinters.
What is the difference between hollow and solid core decking?
Hollow-core boards are lighter and more cost-effective, and suit most residential gardens. Solid-core boards are denser, take a 68% higher maximum load (2550N against 1520N) and are made for commercial and high-footfall areas.
Does composite decking need any maintenance?
Composite decking needs no sanding, staining or oiling. An occasional clean is all it needs to keep looking good.
Will composite decking fade?
Every Sylvan board has a co-extruded shield layer to resist fading, but long spells of strong sun can cause gradual fading over time. This is normal for composite decking and does not affect its strength or lifespan.
What size are the decking boards?
Both profiles are 150mm wide, 25mm thick and 4000mm long. Hollow-core boards weigh 2.83kg per metre and solid-core boards 4.92kg per metre.
How are the boards fixed down?
Sylvan boards use a concealed clip-fix system. Stainless steel starter clips, locking clips and 7mm spacers sit in the grooved edges of each board, so no screws show on the surface.
What fire rating does Sylvan decking have?
Both Sylvan boards are classified Bfl-s1 for reaction to fire under EN 13501-1.
Do you fit composite decking?
No, Sylvan is a supplier only. Most customers fit it themselves using the concealed clip system or use their own contractor, and many contractors buy from us to supply and fit for their customers.
How do I order Sylvan decking?
Design your deck in our online tool and send it to us. Your quote is emailed back, and once you have accepted and paid you collect your order from Unit 21, Olympus Business Park, Newton Abbot.
Do you supply trade customers?
Yes. Sylvan buys direct from the factory and supplies merchants, contractors and DIY customers. Merchants and contractors are welcome to get in touch about regular orders.
How much does composite decking cost?
The cost depends on the size of your deck, the board profile and the clips and trims you need. We buy direct from the factory to keep prices competitive, and the quickest way to an exact price is to design your deck online and get your quote by email.

Sylvan Composite Decking is a brand of Sylvan Property Enterprise Limited. A slight variation in colour or shade may occur between production batches, and one delivery may contain boards from more than one batch. Prolonged sun exposure may cause gradual fading, and changes in heat and moisture can cause minor movement. This is a normal characteristic of composite and does not affect structural performance or lifespan when the deck is installed and maintained in line with the fitting guidelines.
